A U.S. Army Air Corp B-17 crashed in the spring of 1942 near to and south of the San Benito Mill site. The plane went down fully loaded with munitions. The pilot and crew were able to bail out before the crash and were rescued by Norman Scazighini, a nearby rancher. The U.S. Army removed all the guns and bombs, but left the plane. The engines were salvaged soon after the crash and the remainder of the crash site was salvaged 1951. A few small pieces of metal remain to seen. Please do not remove any of the very few items left so that other may see them.
