What's Behind that Name ...

Arroyo Leona

Spanish for Lioness Stream, referred to locally as Lion Canyon. This name also appears in a 1915 report and probably continued from Alta California. The lower portions of this canyon are impassable because of the many large rocks and long waterfalls. One such waterfall is nearly 100 feet.

There were two adobe cabins located near the mouth of this canyon that were occupied when Lillis acquired the property in the early 1900s.
