What's Behind that Name ...

Big Blue Hills

This feature was named by Anderson and Pack in 1916 because "the central and most prominent summits in the group are high, domelike hills of light-blue color formed of serpentine fragments derived from the beds locally know as the Big Blue." The feature is named on Domengine Ranch and Lillis Ranch 7.5" quadrangle.
