KCAC Mine

KCAC is short for King City Asbestos Corporation this mine was previously called the Union Carbide Asbestos mine. Shown on the Santa Rita Peak 7.5' quadrangle at N36° 20.337; W120° 36.856 at 4424 feet. The KCAC mine began operations as the Union Carbide Mine in 1963. It was the last operating asbestos mine in the United States. KCAC mined chrysolite.

Work at the mine site began in 1962 by Jack James while he was employed by Union Carbide.
