What's Behind that Name ...

Panoche Creek

Called Big Panoche Creek before 1860 through at least 1873. By 1915 the lower 3-mile reach of the stream sometimes incorrectly is called Silver Creek, and the U.S. Board of Geographic Names rejected the name "Silver Creek" for present Panoche Creek. By 1908 a place called Schunemann's was situated on the southeast side of Panoche Creek about 1 mile southwest of the entrance of the stream into lowlands.
