What's Behind that Name ...

Spanish Lake

Named on Santa Rita Peak 7.5' quadrangle. This is properly known as Mexican Lake by locals. It is also sometimes simply called The Lake. This is a natural rain-fed depression that frequently fills with enough water so that it retains water throughout the year. It was a common myth held by a few locals in the area during the late 1800s and early 1900s that this was the caldron of an ancient volcano.
